I’ve always loved history, because I'm curious and can't stop asking questions about long ago (and not so long ago!) and because there are so many stories from the past that are exciting, sorrowful, funny, and puzzling.
While collecting the research materials for my books I've interviewed fascinating people, learned circus stunts, sat in a Second World War training plane, cooked recipes and knitted clothing from old manuals, and taken Mandarin lessons (很 好!).
I spend a lot of time searching for history in the backrooms, attics, and basements of stores and museums--that's where the 'story treasures' are!
When I write non-fiction books, and you read them, we become time-travellers.
History is all around us, inviting us to share our own family and community stories.
